Your Health Check Series

Regular Health Checks can lead to a bigger ROI for your Organization

Wrapping up our week of Health Check coverage; we’re looking at the end product, the why. Below we've unpacked some compelling reasons to start monitoring the health of your tenancy.

As stated in our previous blog, better organizational oversight should be a part of best practice– After all security is the first thing that comes to mind when we think about businesses infrastructure. However, better governance and tighter compliance have an attractive by-product, a far greater return on investment.

In fact, the average cost of a data breach in the United States in 2020 was $8.64 million, not only are security lapses costly, they’re damaging to company reputation. After all, who’s going place their sensitive data in the hands of an organization with constant breaches.

So let’s finish this week by highlighting a few ways in which we can cut out extra security breach costs:

Prevention is better than Cure

  • With this Health Check you have the chance to get insight into dangerous user behaviour, see teams who are creating regular non-productive channels or integrating too many third party apps. Make it a priority to address the admin accesses of these Team members and limit the chance of orphaned projects with ungoverned data sitting in silos.

  • See global third party apps who have accesses to your data. It is important to remember that compliance and data regulations can vary in different countries and your third party apps aren’t necessarily based in lets say the UK. Third party apps are incredibly popular, 1 in 5 employees use cloud apps to share sensitive corporate data outside of the four walls. This being said, access permissions are an essential part of monitoring the data journey- our product Reflekt is designed to tackle this issue and mitigate the stresses of third party breaches.

  • Monitor guest activty– Overall we know our guests a little less that our internal contributors, so it’s probably best to keep tabs on where they’re hanging out. Roughly a third of all data breaches are caused by human error so we encourage you to take the next steps and automate some of your processes. There are guaranteed to be countless ‘objects’ in your environment, from files and folders to lists and libraries, as part of your Governance Policies, you’ll have different objects that need to be secured differently based on these policies to stay compliant. How can we be sure that all HR tagged documents are secured properly? We think you’ll agree that automation is a necessity in this case and job that Reflekt was built for.

Dive a Little Deeper

There are some things that the health check can’t show youafter allthis is aimed to be high-level overview or your organisation’s structure. We encourage you to understand in more depth what your data means for your governance and lifecycle management with a Konsolute appointment. We can guide you to products that can help your digital transformation no matter the size or sector of your business.

Take action based on the data you have collected, direct employees to suitable work spaces and keep on top of the spring cleaning – clear out orphaned groups and streamline processes.

You Can’t Build a Great Building on Weak Foundations

At Konsolute we encourage you to build from the ground up, prevention is cheaper and preferable to cure. If your team are properly initiated and have a deep understanding of your company ethosvision and compliance rules, the likelihood of data breaches is reduced significantly. Cutting out the chances of human error helps eliminate breaches. Through 2020, 80% of cloud breaches will be due to customer misconfiguration, mismanaged credentials or insider theft, not cloud provider vulnerabilities,

With this in mind, if we can avoid employee confusion, we can also mitigate risk. Talk to us about our Onboard product, a unique product that integrates with your 365 to take your employee through every step of the joining process.

So, we hope you’ve gained some real insight into our Health Check this week. We encourage you to give it a try, after all its free and easy. You might discover some chinks in your organisational armour, some breaches in security accesses or perhaps you’re tired of excessive spending as a result of human error.
