Cloud security & identity
Cloud security and identity services for Microsoft Cloud
Turn security findings into practical changes across identities, Azure resources and Microsoft 365 information. Konsolute configures access controls, sets cloud guardrails and prepares detection and response around the risks and services in scope.
WHAT THIS HELPS YOU ACHIEVE
Prioritised controls with accountable owners
Address exposure through targeted engineering changes and evidence, with responsibilities for maintaining each control.
A prioritised remediation plan
Direct effort towards material exposure and control gaps, with dependencies made visible.
Stronger access boundaries
Review privileges and access policies against user, device and application requirements.
Tested control behaviour
Check the delivered settings against agreed scenarios and document what remains outside coverage.
Sustained control ownership
Assign responsibility for policy exceptions, alert escalation and recurring security reviews.
OUR CLOUD SECURITY AND IDENTITY SERVICES
Controls across identity, infrastructure and data
Six areas of security engineering for Azure, Entra ID and Microsoft 365, each delivered with evidence that the control works.
Cloud security assessment
Review identity exposure, Azure configuration and Microsoft 365 controls, prioritising findings by business impact and exploitability rather than a posture score.
Identity and access protection
Design Entra Conditional Access and MFA around users, devices and applications, with report-only evaluation, staged enforcement and tested emergency access.
Privileged and workload access
Review Azure RBAC, privileged roles, service principals and app permissions, assessing PIM, managed identities and credential ownership against real tasks.
Azure security guardrails
Configure Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud and network or secrets controls, identifying remediation effects and exceptions before restricting production.
Microsoft 365 information protection
Assess sensitivity labels, DLP and external sharing against information-handling rules, then test Purview controls with real content and working practices.
Detection and response readiness
Assess Defender and Sentinel for the sources in scope and design alert routing, triage ownership and response procedures that someone is accountable for.
CAPABILITIES & DELIVERY SCOPE
What the technical work covers
Workstreams are selected and scoped around your environment. Each combines technical decisions, implementation tasks and evidence for handover.
Cloud security assessment
Review the agreed configuration evidence and attack surface. Link findings to affected identities, resources or information flows and identify prerequisites for remediation.
Identity and access protection
Design policies around representative sign-in scenarios. Review supported authentication methods, access conditions and exception paths, and evaluate behaviour before enforcement.
Privileged and workload access
Map privileged roles and application permissions to actual tasks. Define activation or approval requirements where applicable and identify ownership of workload credentials and consent decisions.
Azure security guardrails
Select appropriate policy scopes and enforcement effects. Assess Defender for Cloud coverage and the network and secrets changes needed, then document remediation and exemption handling.
Microsoft 365 information protection
Map sensitive information to its storage and sharing paths. Pilot labels, DLP and external-sharing restrictions with representative users, content and business processes.
Security evidence and validation
Define evidence that demonstrates each agreed control is functioning. Record test scenarios, results and gaps so configuration completion is not confused with proven coverage.
Detection and response readiness
Select the required telemetry and connectors, taking ingestion costs into account. Define alert triage, incident routing and response actions with the teams that will own them.
Governance review cycle
Create a maintainable review cycle for roles, exemptions and findings. Set review ownership, due dates and escalation routes, including how future changes affect the baseline.
TECHNICAL DESIGN DECISIONS
Technical decisions that shape delivery
These choices affect implementation, ongoing operation and the evidence needed to accept the work.
Identity controls need staged enforcement
Assess user, device and application dependencies before enforcing access policies. Include service accounts, privileged users and emergency-access arrangements in testing.
Guardrails need an exception process
Restrictive policies can affect deployment and existing services. Decide where to audit, deny or remediate and how approved exceptions expire and are reviewed.
Data controls depend on context
Classification and DLP rules must reflect real information flows. Pilot policy behaviour and user communication before broader enforcement.
Detection needs a response owner
Log ingestion alone does not establish incident response. Agree alert coverage, triage, escalation and out-of-hours responsibilities alongside tooling.
OUR APPROACH
How we deliver cloud security and identity
Six stages take you from known exposure to tested controls with named owners and a review cycle that keeps them current.
Identify exposure
Review the agreed Azure, Entra and Microsoft 365 services and the information available about current controls.
Prioritise controls
Rank findings against business impact, access exposure, implementation effort and dependencies.
Design the changes
Define target settings, policy scope, exception handling and the evidence needed for acceptance.
Pilot and implement
Test representative scenarios and introduce approved controls through staged changes.
Validate coverage
Check policy and alert behaviour, record exceptions and confirm the limitations of the delivered scope.
Assign ongoing ownership
Hand over configuration, remediation actions, response runbooks and the control review schedule.

WHERE WE CAN HELP
Where cloud security and identity work fits
Start with the requirement that matches your estate. Assessment establishes the technical dependencies and scope.
See it in practice: Konsolute built Great British Energy – Nuclear's Microsoft 365 tenant with Zero Trust identity and device controls from day one, and deployed a secure Azure Landing Zone for a defence government organisation.
WHAT WE DELIVER
Security deliverables your team can use
The proposal identifies which of these outputs are included, their level of detail and the acceptance criteria.
Prioritised security findings
An assessed list of exposure, business impact, dependencies and recommended remediation.
Implemented control baseline
Agreed identity, resource and information-protection settings, with scope and configuration records.
Validation and exceptions
Test outcomes, control limitations, approved exceptions and residual actions requiring ownership.
Governance and response pack
Control owners, review schedules, alert escalation and response procedures for the agreed environment.
FAQ
Cloud security and identity FAQs
Penetration testing, Conditional Access, app permissions, PIM, Azure Policy, Defender, Sentinel, SOC, Purview and compliance.
A configuration and governance assessment is different from a penetration test. We agree the review method and systems in scope; adversarial testing or exploitation requires an explicitly defined testing engagement.
We assess dependencies, evaluate policies in report-only mode where appropriate and use staged testing. We also validate emergency access and exception handling. Impact depends on existing identity, application and device readiness.
Yes, where included in scope. We assess workload identities, role assignments, application consent and credential ownership, then prioritise unnecessary or excessive access for remediation.
We can assess and configure PIM for supported role scenarios, including activation requirements and review ownership. Licensing, operational processes and emergency-access arrangements need to be confirmed before implementation.
Azure Policy helps evaluate or enforce resource configuration requirements within defined scopes. We design assignments, remediation and exceptions against the estate; policy compliance is one control signal and does not prove the whole environment is secure.
We can assess coverage and configure agreed capabilities, data connectors and workflows. Licensing, consumption costs, data sources and response responsibilities are defined as part of the implementation scope.
A security implementation project does not establish continuous monitoring or incident response coverage by itself. Any SOC or managed detection service needs explicit monitoring hours, escalation routes and response commitments.
We can assess information classification and data-flow requirements and configure the agreed capabilities. Policies are piloted with representative content and users, with licences and service limitations recorded.
We can help map technical controls and evidence to requirements supplied by your organisation. Legal interpretation, certification and a compliance determination require the appropriate accountable specialists and assessment process.
Agreed outputs include findings, configuration records, control test results, exceptions, remediation actions and named ownership. We document areas outside the scope and any controls that need further validation.
