Security assessments & remediation
Microsoft 365 and Azure security assessment and remediation
Find out where your Microsoft environment is exposed and what to fix first. Konsolute's security-cleared consultants review Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Azure and device configuration, then help you implement, retest and close a prioritised remediation plan.
WHAT THIS HELPS YOU ACHIEVE
Know the gaps, prioritise the changes and verify the results
A useful assessment connects observed weaknesses to affected services and business consequences. We combine technical evidence with your operating context to give IT teams a manageable backlog and decision-makers a clear view of priorities.
Understand your exposure
Identify misconfiguration, excessive access and gaps in protection across agreed tenants, subscriptions and connected services.
Focus remediation effort
Rank findings by exposure, business importance and implementation dependencies, with a documented rationale rather than a score alone.
Make controlled improvements
Translate recommendations into approved changes, pilots and validation steps that account for business continuity.
Demonstrate progress
Record before-and-after evidence, retest findings and make residual risks and ownership visible.
OUR SECURITY ASSESSMENTS & REMEDIATION SERVICES
Security assessment expertise with practical remediation
Choose an independent configuration review, a targeted assessment or a combined assessment and remediation engagement. Scope is agreed against your environment and priorities.
Identity & privileged access
Review Entra ID authentication, Conditional Access coverage, administrator roles, guest access and app permissions. Find unnecessary privilege, policy exclusions and unmanaged service accounts.
Microsoft 365 configuration
Assess Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams security settings. Examine external sharing, mailbox forwarding, app consent and email protection policies against agreed requirements.
Azure security posture
Review subscription access, network exposure, resource configuration and protection coverage. Link Defender for Cloud recommendations to resource owners and how critical each workload is.
Endpoint protection coverage
Check device onboarding, Intune compliance policies and Defender coverage. Review vulnerability evidence, configuration gaps and how corrective work is assigned, tracked and closed.
Information & monitoring controls
Examine information protection settings, audit coverage and alert handling. Find where oversharing, missing telemetry or unclear response ownership weakens your overall control environment.
Remediation & reassessment
Build an actionable backlog, implement approved changes and retest the affected controls. Record exceptions, remaining dependencies and validation evidence so the handover is complete.
CAPABILITIES & DELIVERY SCOPE
A security review that connects settings, coverage and ownership
Assessment depth is agreed before access is granted. We distinguish observed configuration from inferred exposure and identify where additional evidence or separately authorised testing is required.
Authentication & Conditional Access
Assess who is covered by authentication policies, how exclusions are managed and whether access requirements match the sensitivity of the service.
- MFA and authentication method coverage
- Conditional Access assignments and exclusions
- Emergency access and policy recovery arrangements
Privilege & application access
Review human and workload access to identify excessive permissions, unclear ownership and opportunities to reduce standing privilege.
- Administrative roles and activation processes
- Application consent and service principal permissions
- Guest access and access review responsibilities
Collaboration & email
Review the configuration that controls how information and messages move inside and outside the organisation, including sharing and forwarding.
- External sharing and guest collaboration settings
- Mailbox forwarding and email protection policies
- Exceptions and business process dependencies
Information protection
Assess agreed sensitive information scenarios and the configuration supporting them. Coverage depends on supported workloads and licensing.
- Label and DLP policy scope
- Information sharing and access controls
- Audit evidence and policy ownership
Azure resources & exposure
Review the agreed subscriptions and resources, using available posture evidence alongside configuration inspection.
- Azure RBAC and privileged assignments
- Public exposure and network access boundaries
- Defender for Cloud findings and ownership
Devices & protection coverage
Identify gaps between the known device estate and the devices represented in management and protection services.
- Device onboarding and inventory reconciliation
- Compliance and security policy assignments
- Available vulnerability evidence and remediation process
Prioritised remediation
Turn findings into an implementable plan that reflects exposure, business impact and delivery constraints.
- Evidence and affected asset records
- Priority rationale and technical dependencies
- Named owners and agreed target dates
Validation & closure
Retest the changed controls and record what has been resolved, partly addressed or accepted by the owner, with the evidence for each.
- Acceptance criteria and test evidence
- Remaining exceptions and compensating controls
- Handover and reassessment recommendations
TECHNICAL DESIGN DECISIONS
Assessment evidence your team can act on
We agree the reference controls, evidence sources and evaluation criteria up front. Findings distinguish a confirmed configuration issue from missing evidence or a recommendation requiring further investigation.
Defined boundaries
Record tenants, subscriptions, workloads, exclusions and assessment dates. Sampling and any unavailable evidence are made explicit in the report.
Proportionate access
Use approved, least-privilege access to collect evidence. Any production change goes through a separate approval and implementation process.
Business-led priorities
Weigh resource criticality, exposure, existing safeguards and dependencies. Review priorities with the owners who will deliver the changes.
Traceable decisions
Keep evidence references, remediation actions and closure criteria together. Document accepted exceptions, their owners and review dates.
OUR APPROACH
How we deliver a security assessment and remediation
Six stages take you from an agreed scope to retested controls, with every finding traced from evidence to closure.
Scope & agree
Agree the systems, reference controls, exclusions and acceptance criteria.
Collect evidence
Gather approved configuration evidence and confirm context with service owners.
Assess controls
Evaluate control coverage and investigate gaps or conflicting evidence.
Prioritise findings
Review findings with stakeholders and agree owners, dependencies and sequencing.
Remediate & validate
Implement authorised changes and retest against documented closure criteria.
Report & hand over
Provide reports, remaining actions, exceptions and operational ownership.
Assess.Remediate.Retest.
WHERE A SECURITY ASSESSMENT CAN HELP
Start with a defined security concern
An engagement can cover a whole agreed Microsoft estate or a focused control area. Discovery establishes the depth of review and the evidence needed.
- Establish a baseline before a wider security improvement programme
- Review a Microsoft 365 tenant after rapid organisational growth
- Identify gaps in MFA, Conditional Access and administrator controls
- Assess Azure configuration and protection coverage before expansion
- Convert existing security recommendations into an owned delivery backlog
- Reassess controls after remediation or a significant environment change
WHAT WE DELIVER
Clear findings, an owned backlog and evidence of closure
Deliverables reflect whether you commission assessment only or include implementation. We make unresolved issues and assessment limitations visible rather than treating a completed report as proof that all risks are removed.
Assessment report
An executive summary and technical findings describing the observed condition, affected services, evidence and scope limitations.
Remediation backlog
Prioritised actions with recommendations, dependencies, accountable owners and agreed closure criteria.
Implementation evidence
For remediation work, configuration records, validation results and recorded outcomes from the agreed changes.
Handover & residual risk
Remaining actions, approved exceptions, operational ownership and a recommended cadence for reassessment.
FAQ
Security assessment FAQs
Scope, standards, penetration testing, access, licensing and closure.
The assessment reviews agreed Microsoft 365, Azure and connected identity services against defined security objectives. It can cover configuration, privileged access, protection coverage, information controls and operational ownership. The proposal identifies the systems, depth of review, evidence sources and exclusions.
Yes. The engagement can focus on a Microsoft 365 tenant or specific control areas such as identity, email or collaboration. Shared dependencies, including Entra ID and connected applications, are identified during scoping so the boundaries are clear.
No. This service centres on configuration, control coverage and remediation. Active exploitation, external penetration testing and adversary simulation require a separately authorised scope with agreed methods and rules of engagement. We record when additional testing would be needed to answer a particular question.
We agree the reference controls during scoping. These can include Microsoft guidance, your internal baselines and selected requirements from an agreed framework. The report identifies what was reviewed; it does not confer certification or automatically demonstrate compliance with every requirement.
We consider the observed exposure, affected service, business importance, existing safeguards and implementation dependencies. Priorities are reviewed with your stakeholders and documented in the backlog. A product recommendation or posture score is supporting evidence rather than the sole basis for a decision.
Yes. Remediation can be included in the engagement or commissioned after you review the findings. We agree the actions, access, change approvals and validation criteria before implementation. Work requiring additional licences or another supplier is identified in the plan.
Evidence collection is planned around the agreed scope and access model. Remediation is treated as a separate change activity, with impact assessment, pilots and rollback planning where appropriate. Any activity that could affect service availability is discussed and authorised in advance.
Access depends on the systems and evidence in scope. We identify suitable permissions and collection methods before work begins, using least privilege and your approval process. If evidence cannot be obtained, the resulting assessment limitation is recorded rather than assumed away.
We check your existing entitlements and available evidence during discovery. Some capabilities and remediation options depend on specific subscriptions or service plans. We distinguish recommendations achievable with existing tools from those requiring extra licensing, deployment or consumption costs.
Duration depends on the number of environments, assessment depth, evidence availability and stakeholder access. We define a delivery plan after scoping. A focused identity review and a multi-subscription assessment require different levels of investigation and validation.
You receive the agreed report and findings register, with evidence, affected services, recommended actions and priorities. A remediation engagement also includes implementation and validation records. Remaining exceptions, dependencies and operational responsibilities are documented for handover.
We agree closure criteria and retest the relevant configuration or behaviour after the change. The finding records the outcome and supporting evidence, including partial remediation or an accepted exception where applicable. Completing a ticket or improving a score alone is not treated as proof of closure.
