Subsea7: Data Migration and Adoption of Microsoft 365

Konsolute migrated Subsea7's data into Microsoft 365 and supported the adoption of its Microsoft 365 tools across the organisation. Colleagues moved onto a modern platform for content and collaboration, with the guidance they needed to use it well.

Overview

Modern collaboration for a global energy services company

Subsea7 is a global offshore energy services company, delivering projects and services for the energy industry. Its people work across offices, project sites and vessels, and depend on being able to share information reliably.

Subsea7 chose Microsoft 365 as its platform for documents and collaboration. To realise the benefits, it needed its existing data moved into the new environment and its people confident using the tools.

Konsolute delivered the data migration into Microsoft 365 and supported adoption of the Microsoft 365 toolset, so the move delivered real change in how people work rather than simply a new place to store files.

The challenge

A new platform is only valuable if people use it

Moving data into Microsoft 365 had to be done carefully, preserving structure and access while keeping project work running. For an organisation working across many locations, disruption to information access could affect live projects.

Adoption was just as important. Without guidance and support, people tend to carry old habits into new tools, such as emailing attachments, duplicating files or saving documents locally, and the benefits of collaboration are lost.

Subsea7 needed to:

  • Migrate existing data into Microsoft 365 with minimal disruption
  • Preserve structure and appropriate access during migration
  • Help colleagues adopt Microsoft 365 tools in their everyday work
  • Encourage collaborative ways of working across locations
  • Realise the value of its investment in Microsoft 365

Our approach

Migrate the data, then help people make the most of it

We combined a planned technical migration with adoption support, so that people were ready to use Microsoft 365 as their data arrived.

Discovery and planning. Konsolute assessed Subsea7's existing data, including volumes, structures and access, and planned how it would map into Microsoft 365.

Data migration. Data was migrated into SharePoint Online, Teams and OneDrive in planned phases, preserving structure and appropriate access. Each phase was validated so teams could continue working with confidence.

Adoption of Microsoft 365 tools. We supported colleagues in adopting Microsoft 365 tools, helping them understand how to collaborate in Teams, share documents in SharePoint and OneDrive, and change familiar habits.

Guidance and support. Guidance materials and support were provided around the migration, helping people find their content and use new features in their own work.

Result

Data in Microsoft 365, and people using it

Subsea7's data now lives in Microsoft 365, migrated in planned phases with structure and access preserved.

Adoption support helped colleagues use Microsoft 365 tools in their everyday work, collaborating through shared spaces rather than relying on attachments and local copies.

Subsea7 gained a modern platform for collaboration across its locations, and the adoption foundations to get value from it.

Your questions

Migration and adoption FAQs

Migration moves the data, but adoption determines whether people work differently. For Subsea7, Konsolute combined both so colleagues were ready to use Microsoft 365 as their content arrived. Without adoption support, old habits often continue in new tools.

By migrating in planned phases and validating each one. Subsea7’s data moved in phases so teams could keep working. Agreeing timings with teams in advance helps avoid conflict with critical project work.

It typically includes guidance, training and support that help people use new tools in their own work. For Subsea7, adoption support focused on collaborating in Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive. The right approach depends on how an organisation’s people work.
