API & System Integration
API and system integration services
Konsolute designs, builds and runs the APIs and integrations that connect your applications, cloud services and third-party platforms. We use Azure API Management, Logic Apps, Azure Functions and Service Bus to create secure, documented interfaces that move data reliably between systems.
WHAT THIS HELPS YOU ACHIEVE
Systems that share information reliably
Replace re-keying, file transfers and fragile point-to-point links with governed APIs and integrations your teams can monitor and change safely.
Remove manual re-keying
Move data between systems automatically, so the same information isn't typed into two or three applications.
Secure every interface
Protect APIs with Microsoft Entra ID, policies and rate limits, so only approved consumers can call them.
Trace every transaction
Follow each request across systems with correlated logging, so failures are found and fixed quickly.
Change with confidence
Versioned, documented APIs let you upgrade or replace a system without breaking everything connected to it.
OUR API AND INTEGRATION SERVICES
Integration engineering across your systems
Build a new integration, replace fragile point-to-point connections or put an API platform in place for your whole estate.
API design & development
Design REST APIs around business capabilities, with clear contracts, versioning and OpenAPI documentation. Build them on Azure Functions, App Service or containers to suit the workload.
Azure API Management
Publish, secure and govern APIs through a single gateway, with policies for authentication, rate limiting, transformation and caching, plus a developer portal for the teams that consume them.
Third-party & SaaS integration
Connect CRM, ERP, HR, finance and project platforms through their supported APIs and connectors, with authentication, data mappings and vendor limits handled properly.
Event-driven & messaging integration
Decouple systems with Azure Service Bus and Event Grid, so updates are delivered reliably even when a downstream system is slow or offline.
Legacy system integration
Expose older applications and databases through modern APIs, or connect them through files, adapters and on-premises gateways while you plan their replacement.
Integration security & monitoring
Apply least-privilege access, managed identities and secrets in Azure Key Vault, with Azure Monitor and Application Insights tracking health, latency and failures.
CAPABILITIES & DELIVERY SCOPE
The engineering behind dependable integration
Each integration is designed as a product, with contracts, security, error handling and operations defined before it goes live.
API contracts & versioning
Define resources, operations, payloads and error responses in OpenAPI. Plan versioning and deprecation so consumers can upgrade on their own schedule.
- OpenAPI specifications
- Versioning and deprecation policy
- Consistent error responses
Authentication & access
Secure APIs with Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0, managed identities and subscription keys. Apply least privilege to every consumer and keep secrets in Azure Key Vault.
- OAuth 2.0 and Microsoft Entra ID
- Managed identities and Key Vault
- Least-privilege consumer access
API Management gateway
Front your APIs with Azure API Management for consistent security, throttling, transformation and analytics, and give consumers a self-service developer portal.
- Policies, quotas and rate limits
- Request and response transformation
- Developer portal and analytics
Hybrid & on-premises connectivity
Reach systems inside your network through private endpoints, VNet integration, on-premises data gateways or a self-hosted gateway, without exposing them to the internet.
- Private endpoints and VNet integration
- On-premises data gateway
- Self-hosted API gateway
Events & messaging
Use Azure Service Bus queues and topics or Event Grid to decouple systems, smooth peaks in load and guarantee delivery when a destination is unavailable.
- Service Bus queues and topics
- Event Grid subscriptions
- Dead-letter handling and replay
Workflow & orchestration
Orchestrate multi-step integrations with Logic Apps and Azure Functions, with validation, idempotency and compensating steps when one system succeeds and another fails.
- Logic Apps workflows
- Azure Functions for custom logic
- Idempotency and compensating steps
Deployment & monitoring
Deploy APIs and integrations through CI/CD with infrastructure as code. Correlate requests end to end in Application Insights and alert on failures, latency and growing backlogs.
- CI/CD and infrastructure as code
- End-to-end correlated telemetry
- Alerts and runbooks
Integration acceptance & handover
Test contracts, security, load and failure scenarios before go-live. Hand over documentation, monitoring and ownership so your team can run and extend the integration.
- Contract and security testing
- Load and failure testing
- Documentation and handover
TECHNICAL DESIGN DECISIONS
Make the integration decisions that matter
Early choices about patterns, ownership and failure handling decide how reliable and maintainable your integrations will be.
Point-to-point or platform
A single direct connection can be the right answer. As connections multiply, an API gateway and messaging layer stop the estate becoming unmanageable.
Real time or batch
Not every exchange needs to be instant. We match synchronous APIs, events and scheduled transfers to the freshness the business actually needs.
One source of truth
Define which system owns each record and which systems consume it, so conflicting updates don't corrupt your data.
Failure designed in
Retries, dead-letter queues and reconciliation are planned up front, so a failed call never silently loses a transaction.
OUR APPROACH
How we deliver API and system integration
Six stages take each integration from a mapped data flow to a tested, monitored service your team owns.
Map systems and data flows
Identify the systems, data, owners and business events each integration must support.
Assess the interfaces
Review available APIs, connectors, authentication, licensing and vendor limits.
Design the integration
Agree patterns, contracts, security, error handling and the target architecture.
Build and automate
Develop APIs, workflows and messaging with infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
Test end to end
Test contracts, security, load and failure scenarios across every connected system.
Go live and hand over
Deploy, monitor live traffic and hand over documentation, runbooks and ownership.
Connect.Secure.Monitor.
ILLUSTRATIVE INTEGRATION FLOW
From one new order to every system that needs it
Consider a new customer order that must reach finance, fulfilment and reporting. Instead of three manual updates, one event drives a governed, traceable flow.
- The order system publishes an event or calls an API published through Azure API Management
- The gateway authenticates the caller, applies policies and routes the request
- Service Bus delivers the message reliably to each system that needs it
- Logic Apps or Azure Functions transform the data into each destination's format
- Failed deliveries move to a dead-letter queue for review and safe replay
- Application Insights traces the order end to end, so support teams can see exactly where it is
See it in practice: Konsolute built an Azure data platform for Nuclear Waste Services that ingests data from its key business systems through their APIs.

FAQ
API and system integration FAQs
Patterns, platforms, security, legacy systems and support.
It is the design and build of the interfaces that let applications exchange data and trigger actions automatically. APIs, messaging and workflows replace manual re-keying, spreadsheets and file transfers between systems.
Typically Azure API Management for publishing and securing APIs, Logic Apps for workflows, Azure Functions for custom logic, and Service Bus or Event Grid for messaging. We choose the combination that fits each integration rather than using every service by default.
This service covers integration between any business systems, cloud services and third-party platforms. Microsoft 365 integration focuses specifically on connecting Teams, SharePoint, Outlook and Microsoft Graph to those systems.
Yes, where the platform provides supported APIs or connectors. We assess authentication, licensing, rate limits and data models first, then design mappings and error handling around them.
Often, yes. Depending on the system, we expose it through a modern API, connect through an on-premises data gateway or self-hosted gateway, or use file and database adapters while you plan its replacement.
It depends on how fresh the data needs to be. We use synchronous APIs where users wait for an answer, events and messaging where updates must be reliable, and scheduled transfers where daily or hourly data is enough.
We use Microsoft Entra ID and OAuth 2.0, managed identities, subscription keys and API Management policies for rate limiting and validation. Secrets are kept in Azure Key Vault and private endpoints keep internal traffic off the internet.
Messaging queues hold updates until the system returns, retries handle short outages, and failed messages move to a dead-letter queue for review and safe replay. Nothing is silently lost.
We correlate each transaction across systems in Application Insights and Azure Monitor, with dashboards and alerts for failures, latency and growing backlogs, and runbooks for common issues.
Yes. Our application support service monitors integrations, resolves incidents and keeps connections working as the systems around them change.
